Skill 6: Gunakan kata penghubung coordinate connector dengan betul

Banyak kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris memiliki lebih dari 1 klausa (clause):
  • I am learning.
  • Mom is cooking, and dad is working in the garden.
  • The girl who is looking at me is my neighbour.
Kalimat pertama cuma memiliki 1 klausa sementara kedua kalimat terakhir memiliki 2 klausa yang pertama 'mom is cooking' dan 'dad is working in the garden.' Yang ke dua 'the girl is my neighbor' dan 'who is looking at me.' Dari tumpuan di atas sanggup kita simpulkan bahwa klausa ialah bab dari kalimat atau kalimat itu sendiri yang memiliki satu subjek dan satu verb. Umumnya diartikan bahwa klausa itu ialah sekumpulan kata yang meliputi sebuah subjek dan sebuah verb.
Pada skill ini akan dipelajari terkena bentuk-bentuk kata penghubung coordinate connector serta penerapannya dalam kalimat. Coordinate connector dipakai untuk  menghubungkan antara satu klausa dengan klausa yang lain. misal coordinate connector yang umum yaitu: and, but, or, so, yet (tapi). Perhatikan penerapan koma sebelumnya.
  • Tom is singing, and Paul is dancing.
  • Tom is tall, but Paul is short.
  • Tom must write the letter, or Paul will do it.
  • Tom told a joke, so Paul laughed.
  • Tom is tired, yet he is not going to  sleep.
misal di bawah ini menggambarkan bagaimana coordinate connector dijadikan sebagai soal dalam test Structure TOEFL.

Dari kalimat di atas sanggup kita ketahui bahwa kalimat tersebut memiliki dua klausa 'a power failure occured' dan 'the lamps went out'. Makara kalimat tersebut butuh sebuah coordinate connector untuk menghubungkan ke dua klausa tersebut. Dari pilihan jawabanan yang ada spesialuntuk 1 bentuk connector yaitu so. Makara jawabanan paling sempurna yaitu b) so.

misal soal:

    2. The rain clouds can be seen in the distance, but no has fallen.
    3. They are trying to sell their home, it has been on the market for two months.

    Yang diblok ialah subjek.
    Yang diblok dan digaris bawahi ialah verb (kata kerja).
    Yang dimiringkan ialah coordinate coordinator.
    Pada kalimat 1, 5, 7, dan 8 ialah bentuk kalimat yang benar (sudah terdapat subjek dan verb) beserta penerapan  coordinate coordinator sudah benar.
    Pada kalimat 2 dan 6 kehilangan subjek. No. 3 dan 10 kehilangan connector. No. 4 dan 9 juga salah alasannya yaitu salah penempatan connector. Sementara no.
